Meet Recap

In what proved to be the fastest collection of mile runner’s in the state of Florida this past weekend, the boys from Chiles proved they were up to the challenge. Junior Michael Phillips earned second place in the 1600m with a time of 4:15.19 (the 3rd fastest mile time in the United States for high school boys), narrowly missing out on gold by .35 seconds. Not to be outdone, junior Matthew Newland ran for a huge personal best, coming in 4th place with a time of 4:21.38. Senior Alexander Gruenewald and junior Robert Nowak also had strong performances in a very tough field that saw the top 11 runners all break the previous meet record, earning 11th and 13th respectively. Connor Hansen also added to the night’s successes, bringing home gold in discus and shot put (PR throw of 50′ 7″ *NEW MEET RECORD).
